The Purple Book is published annually by the Pension Protection Fund and the Pensions Regulator. It provides comprehensive data and analysis on the defined benefit pensions' landscape. The Purple Book 2012 was published on 7 November 2012.

This revised version was released on 26  November 2012. Compared with the initial version on 7 November, there have been changes to Charts 7.6 to 7.9 and to Charts 5.1 – 5.6 (excluding Chart 5.3). Associated summary bullet points have also been amended. Charts 7.6 to 7.9 were revised to show the ratio of “stressed smoothed assets” to “smoothed assets” rather than “stressed smoothed assets to “stressed point-estimate assets (as at 31 March 2012)”. The new Chapter 5 charts take account of revisions to one of the asset return indices that feed into the model used to roll forward assets and liabilities. The first table in the Chapter 3 appendix has been amended to reflect data used in the charts and tables for Chapter 3. 

We intend to release the Purple Book 2013 in the fourth quarter of the year.
